I have one NaNoWriMo for the 5th time out of 5 years. It was a bit closer this year due to being ill. Harder to get that word count in. So it was slow and steady wins the race instead of finishing mid-month.

Two Works in Progress
For this NaNo I had two half-finished WIPs to work on. If I finished the first I was planning on moving onto the next until I hit the 50k.
And that is what I did. What I didn’t anticipate is that I would finish both works in progress during the month. So that is awesome. I mean, a lot of second draft work to do on them but still, they are done. So that is the 3rd book in the Alignment Trilogy. And the final book in the Haven series. Rough drafts done. Phew!
Gives me some work to do polishing them up and then I can continue with Riftworld series.
NaNoWriMo is great for finishing WIPs.
- You have them half done already
- You know exactly where the plot is going you just have to take it there
- You have a firm grip on the characters and the world already
- Just a matter of Finishing
And if you write fantasy, well, 50k does not a novel make. So if you have a half finished novel, well, then finishing it will be about 50k. In this case, I was farther along on both novels. I just needed to finish both of them so Both added up to Just over 50k.
I loved the challenge this year
I have been pretty ill and it is difficult to find time to write and to write the word count needed to make 50k in a month. But on good days I’d burn through 3k to make up for bad days. And I learned even though I feel so shitty I can still manage to write in there, bits and pieces of time, with rest in there, but still, it gets done. Differently than before, maybe. And messier with more errors. So rough Rough draft, yeah. But still Capable of it. And that made me feel good about myself. You know, that I didn’t lose this part of me to this hellish illness afflicted me lately… that has consumed so much these last two years now. Just takes and takes. But it can’t take it All can it? I can still write and I can still manage to complete a NaNoWriMo challenge even. So fuck you, illness!
And, I don’t know, I wish i could give myself some sort of reward for all that effort and for the Win. But sadly, lack of funds means a pat on the back will have to suffice. lol. And straight to the second draft I go. No rest for the wicked.
